Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) Botox
Waking Up Every Morning with a Painful Jaw and a Headache Doesn't Have to Be Your Fate!
Do you wake up with a tired jaw, a headache that won't go away, a stiff neck or an aching back?
Combined with the stress of modern life, teeth grinding (bruxism) – which makes you lock your jaw throughout the night without realising it – doesn't just damage your teeth; it disrupts your sleep, lowers your quality of life and upsets the aesthetic balance of your face.
The Masseter Botox (Teeth Grinding Botox) we offer at Dr. Ahmet Demir Clinic provides a holistic, non-surgical solution to this problem that both protects your jaw health and softens your facial contours.
What Is Teeth Grinding Botox (Masseter Botox) and What Does It Do?
Masseter Botox is the controlled application of small doses of botulinum toxin into the strongest chewing muscle (the masseter), located at the side of the jaw.
With This Medical and Aesthetic Treatment:
- The contracting and clenching force of the masseter muscle is brought under control.
- Jaw, head, neck and back pain caused by teeth clenching is noticeably reduced.
- Tooth wear and damage to the jaw joint (TMJ) caused by grinding are prevented.
- The enlarged, thickened jaw muscle shrinks, softening a squared or harsh look and creating a fresher, more aesthetic V-line contour.
Does Teeth Grinding Only Affect the Teeth? Who Is This Treatment Suitable For?
Teeth grinding is actually a whole-body alarm signal. Because the jaw muscles work in direct connection with the neck and back muscles, people who clench their teeth commonly experience the following complaints:
- Persistent Back and Neck Pain: Constant tension in the jaw gradually spreads through the whole upper body, triggering chronic back and shoulder pain.
- Morning Fatigue and Poor-Quality Sleep: With a jaw that clenches all night, the body cannot reach deep sleep. Instead of waking up refreshed, you wake up tired, as if you had not slept at all.
- Hardening of the Facial Contour (Square Jaw): An overworked masseter muscle undergoes hypertrophy and enlarges. Especially in women, this disrupts the oval shape of the face, giving it a squarer, more masculine and harsher look.
- Tooth Damage and Jaw Joint Locking: For those experiencing cracks and wear in tooth enamel, or clicking sounds from the jaw (joint problems).
How Is Masseter Botox Performed? What Does the Process Involve?
Masseter Botox is an extremely quick and comfortable procedure that does not disrupt your daily life:
- Muscle Volume and Strength Analysis: Before the procedure, the physician assesses the size of the jaw muscle and the force of your clenching.
- Topical Comfort: A local anaesthetic cream is applied to the injection areas to numb them.
- Precise Injection (10–15 Minutes): Using special ultra-fine needles, the planned number of units is injected into the most active and thickest points of the masseter muscle. It is a painless procedure completed within minutes.
What Do We Do? Why Choose Us? (The Dr. Ahmet Demir Clinic Approach)
Jaw anatomy and the overall balance of the face are extremely delicate. At Dr. Ahmet Demir Clinic, our approach is:
- Preserving Chewing Function: Our aim is to break the "excessive and uncontrolled" clenching force that occurs during the night. Your ability to eat or speak is not affected in any way.
- Preserving Expression and Smile: By injecting into the correct layer without touching the neighbouring muscles that create your smile (such as the risorius muscle), we keep your expression and smile completely natural.
- Gender-Specific Aesthetic Planning: In women we aim for a graceful, oval facial contour (V-Line); for our male patients, we plan a special dosage that protects only the joint and relieves pain without compromising a masculine structure.
Benefits of the Procedure and Why It Must Be Performed by a Physician
- It Is Not Surgery: No major jaw operations or surgical interventions are required.
- A Comfortable Alternative to Night Guards: It is the most practical solution for patients who cannot use night guards because they cause nausea or discomfort in the mouth.
- It Must Be Performed by a Physician: The masseter is a large muscle group, and the smile muscles and salivary glands lie right beside it. Because injections in the wrong spot can cause an asymmetrical smile, it must always be performed by a physician with an in-depth command of anatomy.

Frequently asked questions
How Long Does the Procedure Take and Is It Painful?
Including preparation, the procedure takes only 10–15 minutes. Thanks to fine needles and local anaesthetic creams, discomfort is minimal and the treatment is very comfortable.
How Long Does It Last and When Does It Start Working?
Muscle relaxation and pain relief begin within 3–7 days. Facial slimming (the disappearance of the square look) depends on the muscle losing volume; it becomes noticeable from the 2nd week and reaches its final result by the 1st month. The effect lasts on average 4 to 6 months. With regular treatments, the muscle learns not to clench, so the intervals between sessions become longer.
Will Masseter Botox Affect My Smile?
Absolutely not. When performed with the right technique, the procedure focuses only on the chewing muscle; the muscles that create your smile are not touched.
Will I Have Difficulty Chewing After Botox?
No. The masseter is a large muscle group, and Botox only breaks this muscle's excessive, harmful force. Your normal eating and speaking functions are not disrupted in any way. A very small number of people report that, for 2–3 weeks after the procedure, they tire when chewing tough foods such as meat. This is most likely due to old habits.
What Should I Be Careful About After the Procedure?
For the first 24 hours, avoid firm massage of the jaw area, do not chew very hard or crunchy foods, and avoid very hot baths and saunas. Do not drink alcohol and avoid strenuous exercise on the same day. You can return to your social life the same day.
Can Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women Have It?
As with all Botox treatments, it is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
What Determines the Price of Masseter Botox?
Prices vary individually depending on the size of the muscle and the amount of units (dose) required.
