Hair Transplantation

How to Prepare Before a Hair Transplant

Good preparation helps a hair transplant procedure proceed as safely and comfortably as possible.

Tell Us About Your Health

Please inform the medical team about chronic illnesses, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, bleeding or clotting problems, previous operations, regular medication, vitamins or herbal supplements and any known allergies.

Blood-Thinning Medication

Aspirin, anticoagulants and medicines that affect platelet function can increase bleeding. Do not stop prescribed medication unless the doctor who manages it has advised you to do so.

Vitamins and Supplements

Please tell us about omega-3 supplements, herbal products, sports supplements and vitamins.

Alcohol

We recommend avoiding alcohol in the period before the procedure.

Green Tea, Cola and Other Caffeinated Drinks

In our clinic, we recommend limiting excessive green tea, high-caffeine drinks, energy drinks, large amounts of cola and alcohol before the procedure. The aim is to reduce unnecessary pinpoint bleeding and fluctuations in circulation during surgery.

Smoking

If possible, reduce or stop smoking before the procedure.

Do I Need to Cut My Hair Beforehand?

Not always. If DHI, an unshaven procedure or a female hair transplant is being considered, please do not cut or shave your hair yourself before the appointment. Any required trimming can be planned at the clinic.

Hair Dye and Chemical Treatments

Avoid treatments close to the procedure that may irritate the scalp.

Spots, Wounds or Scalp Infection

The procedure may need to be postponed if there is an active infection, open wound or significant dermatitis.

Blood Tests

Any required tests are planned according to the patient’s medical history and health status.

Should I Arrive Fasting?

Usually not. A light breakfast is generally recommended unless you have been given different instructions.

What Should I Wear?

Choose comfortable clothing that opens at the front with buttons or a zip so it does not need to be pulled over the head.

On the Morning of the Procedure

Your hair should be clean. Do not apply gel, spray, oil or other cosmetic hair products.

Sleep

A good night’s sleep before the procedure is helpful.

Photo Assessment

Photographs from the front, top, back and both sides can be used for the initial assessment.

Final Planning on the Day

The hairline, graft distribution, chosen technique and donor area are reviewed again before the procedure begins.
