Hair Transplantation
Moustache Transplant with DHI & Sapphire FUE
A moustache transplant can restore density in areas that are naturally sparse, asymmetrical or affected by scars. The key to a convincing result is not simply the number of grafts, but the correct choice of fine single-hair grafts and precise control of direction and angle.
At Dr Ahmet Demir Clinic, the design is planned around the upper lip, facial proportions and the patient's preferred style.
What Is a Moustache Transplant?
Hair follicles are harvested from a suitable donor area and transplanted into the upper-lip region to increase density, fill gaps or camouflage selected scars.
The donor source is usually the scalp. In selected cases, beard or body hair may be considered as an additional source depending on hair characteristics.
Who May Benefit?
Men with congenital sparse growth or limited moustache development.
Patients with gaps or asymmetry.
Selected scars caused by trauma, burns or previous surgery.
Patients who want a fuller or more defined moustache while maintaining a natural growth pattern.
DHI Moustache Transplant
In DHI, grafts are implanted with an implanter pen without a separate pre-made channel stage.
This can offer close control over direction, angle and distribution in a small, highly visible area such as the upper lip.
DHI is therefore our preferred technique in many moustache transplant cases.
Sapphire FUE Moustache Transplant
In the channel technique, recipient sites are created first and grafts are then placed into them.
Sapphire FUE may be considered depending on skin characteristics, area size and the planned density.
The Importance of Single-Hair Grafts
Multi-hair follicular units can look coarse or unnatural in the moustache region.
For this reason, fine single-hair grafts are prioritised, particularly along borders and transition zones.
How Many Grafts Are Usually Needed?
The number depends on the size of the area, existing moustache density and the desired style.
Many cases may fall roughly within a few hundred grafts, but the final number should be determined after assessment rather than by a fixed package.
Procedure and Recovery
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia and commonly takes a few hours.
Small crusts and temporary redness can occur during the first days.
Some transplanted hairs may shed during the early weeks before new growth begins from the transplanted follicles.
Natural Direction
Moustache hairs emerge at a low angle and follow different directions across the upper lip. Reproducing these angles is one of the most important parts of creating a natural result.
