Underarm Hyperhidrosis Treatment with Botulinum Toxin

Excessive underarm sweating can affect clothing choices, confidence and comfort at work or in social situations. When sweating is significantly greater than the body's normal cooling requirements, the condition is known as axillary hyperhidrosis.

Botulinum toxin can temporarily reduce excessive sweat production in suitable patients.

How Does It Work?

Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the nerve signals that stimulate the sweat glands in the treated area.

The aim is to reduce excessive perspiration rather than to interfere with the body's overall ability to regulate temperature.

Who May Benefit?

People with persistent visible sweat marks despite standard antiperspirants.

Patients whose sweating causes clothing restrictions or significant social discomfort.

People who develop skin irritation from persistent moisture.

Medical Assessment

Before treatment, possible secondary causes such as thyroid disease, metabolic disorders, medications or other conditions may need to be considered.

Procedure

The treatment area is identified and, if required, mapped according to sweat activity.

Small injections are placed superficially across the underarm area.

The procedure generally takes around 15–20 minutes.

When Does It Start and How Long Does It Last?

An improvement is usually noticed within several days, with the full effect developing over the following one to two weeks.

Results commonly last several months, although duration varies between patients.

Safety

Temporary redness, tenderness, bruising or local discomfort can occur.

The procedure should be planned after an appropriate medical history and examination.
